Enable / disable create backup [.bak] files in EditPlus editor

EditPlus is one of the popular text editor as it supports many text formats starting from .txt, .html, .perl, .py, .java etc

Backup file [.bak]

Every time we save a new file, EditPlus creates a backup file with extension format .bak, for some this might be useful in case the file got deleted or damaged, they can get the content from the respective .bak file, but for some this might just not needed.

Enable/disable Option

We can enable or disable creation of the .bak file while saving a new file in EditPlus, this will be under

Tools | Prefernces | File

To create back up file each time you create a new file, Check the Create backup file when saving

To disable this creation of backup file, just uncheck the option.

 

 

Download [official] portable notepad++

Notepad++ is one of the popular note making application in widnows OS,

Notepad++ provides syntax highlight for different language when you provide extension of the file.

e.g PythonTest.py or JavaTest.java etc…

In this post, we will see how to download the portable notepad++, so no need to install.

Just download, extract using 7zip tool and click on the notepad++.exe

Note : You can create a shortcut of this exe on desktop for ease of use

SlickRun – one stop shortcut utility for windows

This is one of most useful command line utility for windows users, SlickRun allows us to keep all our shortcuts in one place (whether it is web url or folder path).

Customize SlickRun to keep a short name (called as magicWord) for any web url or folder path.

When you need them, just search with the magicWord saved, it will popup the web url or explores the folder.

It’s very tiny utility and can be placed anywhere on the windows screen.

How to keep shortcuts / MagicWords >

Let’s say you have a folder “Tricks” under C:\TechR\Category\Windows\Tricks

Every time you want to access the folder, you have to navigate to 4 folders,

In SlickRun, no navigations required… How!!!

Right click on SlickRun (once installed, it will be floating on screen as shown above),

Setup | New MagicWord

Click on Check mark symbol to save the magic word.

Next time when you want to explore Tricks folder, just go to SlickRun aqnd search with key word “tricks”, it will pop up Tricks folder.

We can change the appearance like font and color of the utility.

In addition, it provides Memory usage, date and time.
